Enhancing CMAQ Air-Surface Exchange for Ecosystems: Tools

Post-processing tools are important to facilitate visualization or examination of outputs and aid the use of EPA's Community Multiscale Air Qualtiy (CMAQ) modeling systems's deposition outputs by other models.

Research Projects

  • Spatial Allocator
    The Spatial Allocator was developed for the EPA by the Institute for the Environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This tool can be used by the air quality modeling community to perform commonly needed spatial tasks without requiring the use of a commercial Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Watershed Deposition Tool
    The Watershed Deposition Tool is a software application for remapping CMAQ gridded data to watershed delineations and for converting CMAQ output files from Models-3/IOAPI format to shapefiles for use with GIS systems.
  • Fertilizer Emission Scenario Tool for CMAQ (FEST-C)
    FEST-C is a user interface designed to facilitate creation of the input files to support EPIC model simulation, EPIC execution and CMAQ input file extraction (expected release December, 2012).
  • Visualization Environment for Rich Data Interpretation (VERDI)
    The Visualization Environment for Rich Data Interpretation (VERDI) is a software application for analyzing and visualizing CMAQ and the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model data.  Users can create tile plots to show spatial gradients of model output as well display many other types of plots such as scatter plots, time series, and areal interpolation.  Results of analyses may also be exported as shapefiles.
