Municipal Solid Waste
Across the U.S. and Mexico, many communities, businesses, and individuals have found creative ways to reduce and better manage Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) through a coordinated mix of practices that includes source reduction, recycling (including composting), reuse and when those options have been exhausted finally disposal. The most environmentally sound management of MSW is achieved when these approaches are implemented according to EPA's preferred order: source reduction, reuse of materials, recycling and composting, and lastly disposal in landfills or waste combustors.
This website provides an overview of options for managing solid waste.
