| Size of Award | The Voluntary Renewable Resources Fund was established by the Maine Legislature in 2000 and is supported by contributions made by consumers on their electric bill. Grants are allocated to small-scale demonstration projects designed to educate the community on the value and cost-effectiveness of harnessing natural resources for clean electricity. Organizations eligible to receive funding include Maine-based nonprofit organizations, consumer-owned electric cooperatives, and quasi-municipal corporations. Grants of up to $50,000 are awarded to qualifying projects. Eligible technologies include biomass energy and/or municipal solid waste. Projects must be under 100 MW in capacity or qualify as a small power production facility under Federal Energy Regulatory Commission rules. Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis. |
