EPA's enforcement program had its second best year in obtaining legal commitments from defendants to reduce 1.1 billion pounds of pollution to air, water and land. This advances EPA's mission to protect human health and the environment. The numbers on the chart below are annual estimates of pollutant reductions that will be achieved when the facilities have completed all required pollution controls. Since the facilities will continue to operate for many years after coming into compliance, the pollution reductions will be repeated annually.
