PLDT's leadership
US EPA recognized the Philippines Long Distance Phone Company (PLDT) in June 2001
with an Award for Leadership in Energy Efficiency for developing a demonstration project to determine the feasibility of
and savings from upgrading its commercial fluorescent fixtures. PLDT upgraded
40 Watt linear T12 lamps with magnetic ballasts to 32 Watt linear T8 lamps with
high-frequency electronic ballasts. The project is saving almost 50,000 kWh per
year and has taken only 2 years to recouperate the investment. PLDT has continued
to upgrade more space and expects more savings. See more details in the PLDT
Case Study (43KB|PDF).
