Integrated Management Systems for Water and Wastewater Utilities
EMS Initiatives
Supported by EPA
Water and wastewater utilities are facing a number of challenges brought on by aging physical infrastructure, increased pressure from rateholders to operate more efficiently, and improve environmental performance. A number of management programs are being used by these organizations, but there is clear need to help utility managers understand how to integrate these programs under a management system that uses the Plan-Do-Check-Act methodology embodied in EMSs.
Recognizing this need, the Office of Water, in cooperation with the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the Association of Metropolitan Sewerage Agencies (AMSA)
, recently produced a guide, Continual Improvement in Utility Management: A Framework for Integration (PDF)
(128 pp, 1 M, About PDF) to help these utilities understand how this integration can occur.
