Ideal Jacobs Corporation of Maplewood, New Jersey is an ISO 9002/14001 registered facility that specializes in printing, plastic, and metal fabrication.
Overview
Ideal Jacobs is one of the smallest facilities in EPA's National Environmental Performance Track program yet boasts an efficient environmental management system. The EMS is used to track and eliminate unnecessary production waste as well as gain more control over the facility's budget. By gauging expenses and implementing programs to reduce those expenses, the company is initiating changes that ultimately contribute to environmental performance and cost effectiveness. Ideal Jacobs' EMS is also used to track the business aspect of production to observe investments and their subsequent effect on profits. The company's growth of 10 percent in 2000 reinforces the notion that environmental performance and cost effectiveness can progress together.
Benefits
The direct result of having an EMS means that in 2002, the company’s generation of hazardous wastes will be near zero and the company will remain under the threshold for all other levels of emission to the extent that they do not need permits of any kind. Cost savings this year attributed to EMS are approximately $25,000. Ideal estimates that it cost them $20,000 to implement the EMS at their facility, an expenditure that was captured in these one-year cost savings.
