Pakulski, J. Dean, Richard B. Coffin, Cheryl A. Kelley, Sonya L. Holder, Roswell Downer, Peter Aas, M. Maille Lyons and Wade H. Jeffrey. 1996. Iron Stimulation of Antarctic Bacteria (Letter). Nature. 383(6596):133-134. (ERL,GB X890).

Our preliminary evidence suggests that the growth of heterotrophic bacteria can be stimulated by Fe additions in Antarctic waters. Our results and conclusions, however, may be relevant only to the locale and season in which these experiments were conducted. We nevertheless urge our colleagues to consider the response of heterotrophic bacteria to Fe enrichment in future ecosystem-level Fe experiments.
