Boat Pressure Wash Water Control Technologies Virtual Trade Show
Clean Water Solution

 Narrative Description

EBI's "Clean Water Solution", Model: R3/550-1, is a closed-loop system engineered to effectively collect, transfer, and treat the boat bottom pressure wash wastewater. EBI has developed a proven treatment process for the Marina Industry that utilizes solids coagulation and a low pressure filtration technology. This system treats the typical marina wastewater and produces clear and high quality reusable water that is very low in suspended solids and reusable for future power washing applications. The U.S. patent for this system is currently pending.

 Specifications

Each system is engineered and designed based on the particular boat-yard activities and specific requirements. The major components of a typical system may consist of a reaction tank with mixer, filtration device, with reusable filters, and a final clean water holding tank with delivery pump.

 Site Constraints/Installation Requirements

The system is designed and sized per specific site constraints. The design could be for either a skid-mounted or a permanent/fixed installation, per site-specific requirements.

 Applications

Wash
Collection
Filtration
Treatment
Recycle
Reuse
Pollution Prevention
Other

As with any marina, a collection apron system designed to capture the boat bottom pressure wash wastewater and solids needs to be in place to support treatment operations. The wastewater and solids are treated and filtered to remove solids, control odor and produce clear high quality reusable water. The treated water is typically recycled for future pressure washing needs or could be used in other processes.

 Performance

This is a batch operation which consistently produces clear water for recycling and reuse. It eliminates industrial wastewater discharge compliance requirements and promotes recycle and reuse.

The collected wastewater from boat bottom washing operations is treated using a batch reactor and agitator/mixer. Treatment chemistry is manually added to each batch to condition the wastewater and promote solids extraction. After initial conditioning, the wastewater is transformed into highly filterable water which supports liquid-solid separation. The conditioned wastewater is filtered using an efficient filter technology; yielding clear, low solid water for reuse. The filtered cake-like solids contain no free liquid and are collected in a separate container for proper disposal. The system filters are reusable.

This system eliminates environmental pollution; promotes reuse and recycling of resources. Since solids handling is minimized, there is much less time spent by the operator managing solids disposal.

 Inspections/Maintenance

Normal pump maintenance activities; routine inspection of piping connections; the reusable filter cloths are cleaned as necessary via existing pressure washing equipment. The maintenance schedule and requirements will depend on the final design, marina configuration and equipment selection.

 Costs

For a typical system, the following approximate costs are estimated:
Treatment system & Engineering Costs: $36,750
Annual Operation & Maintenance: $250-$400 (depending on the number of boats)

 Longevity

With proper maintenance, this system's life expectancy is estimated to be 10 to 12 years.

 Secondary Beneficial Impacts/Adverse Impacts

This system reduces environmental pollution. It promotes recycling and reuse of waste water. Waste minimization due to the filtered solids having a 30 -40% solids content reducing disposal volume.

 Potential Problems & Solutions

This system is designed and field tested to anticipate Marina Industry's needs. It is designed as a user friendly system with easy operating controls. Since the system has a separate pressure wash feed tank there is no operation down time during pressure washing operations.

 Delivery Time

Delivery time is dependent upon defining operating conditions as well as system design, equipment sizing and selection. The typical delivery time is 10 to 12 weeks.

 Pretreatment

No collection apron pre-treatment filter is required. The system is designed to condition the raw wastewater and process it as it is collected during the pressure washing operation. The greater the solids content the better the system operates.

 Disposal of Effluent

The treated water is stored for reuse within the pressure washing operation or some other process. The filtered solids are collected in a separate container for proper disposal.

 Other Additional Information

This is a very cost effective, efficient, and operator friendly system for treating the marina wastewater. It is environmentally friendly and is designed to recycle a precious resource (water).
