The following is a listing of some of the larger organizations that accept food donations. Many additional opportunities exist for donating unwanted food to local area shelters and food pantries.

Regional/New England

Description: This organization provides a nationwide listing of
food programs which distribute surplus food to those in need through
nearly 50,000 food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, and
other social service organizations. Foodchain focuses on donations
of prepared and perishable food.

Description: The America's Second Harvest Network of over
200 food banks and food-rescue organizations distributed nearly
2 billions pounds of food and grocery products in 2005. The America's
Second Harvest Network provides emergency food assistance to more
than 25 million Americans in need every year.
Connecticut

Description: Connecticut Food is a private, nonprofit organization that provides food to 650 food- assistance programs such as soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries, and adult and child day care centers in Connecticut. CFB is the largest centralized source of donated, emergency food in Connecticut. The main warehouse is located in East Haven, with branch warehouses in Waterbury and Fairfield, and distribution sites in New London and Stamford.

Description: Foodshare is an independent, non-profit corporation. Foodshares is a regional food bank that distributes more than 12 tons of food per day to nearly 400 local programs that feed hungry people in Hartford and Tolland Counties. Foodshare provides food to food pantries, community kitchens, shelters, and other social service organizations in every town in greater Hartford.

New Hampshire
New Hampshire Food Bank ![]()

Description: New Hampshire Food Bank is a program of New Hampshire Catholic Charities, and serves as the only food bank in the state. Each year the Food Bank distributes over 4 million pounds of donated, surplus food to nearly 350 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, day care centers, senior citizen homes and substance abuse treatment centers.

Description: The Rhode Island Community Food Bank is a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization. Currently, the Food Bank serves 51,000 Rhode Islanders each month and has an annual distribution of approximately nine million pounds.

Description: The Vermont Foodbank, Vermont's only food bank, serves 270 sites that assist 66,000 Vermonters each year. In 2006, the Vermont Foodbank distributed nearly 6.5 million pounds of food to its Network Partners.
