Vermont
The Vermont Department of Agriculture, Food and Markets provides assistance on a wide variety of agricultural issues in Vermont. The Department ensures and enforces quality standards for agricultural products, regulates pesticide use, provides technical and marketing assistance to farmers and producers, develops new markets for Vermont products, and administers Vermont's agricultural water quality protection programs (the Accepted Agricultural Practices program, the Best Management Practices Cost-share program, and the Large Farm Operations permit program). Additional Agencies with extensive agricultural programs in Vermont include the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service (802-951-6795) and Farm Services Agency (802-527-1296), which among other things provide cost-share and technical assistance to farmers for conservation practices. The Vermont Natural Resources Council (802-828-3529) and the University of Vermont Extension System (802-656-2990) also provide assistance on agricultural issues.
