DraftMOVES2009 Training Materials

To assist those learning to use Draft MOVES2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are scheduling a series of MOVES hands-on training sessions at locations around the country.  These trainings include overview information on MOVES and hands-on work with the draft model.  Below is a set of the presentation materials used for the training sessions with additional files referenced in the training.

  • Part 1 - MOVES Overview (PDF) (83 pp; 475K) gives an overview of the MOVES Draft2009 Model.
  • Part 2 - MOVES National (PDF) (80 pp; 2.3M) presents a quick tour of the MOVES Graphical User Interface and how to set up a run using the National scale.  National Files (zip file) (2K) are to be used with this presentation.
  • Part 3 - MOVES Output (PDF) (36 pp; 645K) provides an exercise in GUI post-processing tools.
  • Part 4 - MOVES MySQL (PDF) (57 pp; 1.9M) is an overview of basic MySQL commands and provides an exercise in selecting and filtering data.
  • Part 5 - MOVES County DM (PDF) (51 pp; 1.7M) walks the user through the County Data Manager option under the Pre-Processing menu. County Files (ZIP) (3.98M) are used with the exercises to open and populate a template, and to use modified default meteorology data.
  • Part 6 - MOVES Custom Domain PDF (15 p; 728K) shows how to use the Custom Domain feature.  Custom Files (ZIP) (101K) are used for the exercise in creating a custom domain and using the I/M editor.
  • Part 7 - MOVES Project Level (PDF) (69 pp; 3.1M) goes through each panel in the GUI and provides exercises for a MOVES run at the project level.  Project Files (ZIP) (7 K) are to be used with this presentation.
  • Part 8 - MOVES Best Practices (PDF) (5 pp; 57K) presents information on aggregation vs. disaggregation and offers tips on keeping track of files. An errata is also included.
  • Part 9 - Draft MOVES2009 Miscellaneous Topics (PDF) (7 pp; 160K) provides a brief description of how to run MOVES from a DOS screen (command line input) and running MOVES in a batch mode.
