Emergy Analysis

Emergy is a measure of all the direct and indirect energy of the material, services, and information required to make a product or sustain a system. The emergy method incorporates environmental, social, and economic aspects into a common unit of non-monetary measure and objectively assesses the sustainability of systems or processes. Along with ecological footprint, Fisher information, and green net product, emergy is one of the sustainability metrics integrated into evaluation of both regional systems and product systems. With tight integration to complex life cycle inventory datasets, emergy can be used to compare the sustainability of different supply chains.
