Sustainability: What Does it Mean for Our Future?

FIRST HOUR: COLLABORATION AND SUSTAINABILITY AT EPA

The aim of this session is to provide participants with insight on the topic of sustainability both conceptually as well as practically. Each panel member will deliver a short presentation that focuses on the following points: (i) discuss the work of their respective offices in terms of how it incorporates and advances the principles of sustainability and sustainable decision-making; (ii) discuss future plans toward development of integrated environmental management work at EPA and fostering environmental stewardship; and (iii) give some insights into potential collaborative opportunities for ELN members to become involved in sustainability-related work. The presentation by each panel member will be limited to 10 minutes to allow ample opportunity for discussions and questions and answers.

SECOND HOUR: INDIVIDUAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT: SUSTAINABILITY IN OUR CAREERS

Dr. William Farland (Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for Science, ORD)

This session will be dedicated to discussing the leadership challenges facing the Agency and the skills that next generation of EPA leaders needs to acquire. Two of the Agency's senior executives will participate in the discussion to reflect on their career experiences and provide guidance to ELN members on how to gain the skills needed to succeed at EPA.
