This session will highlight emerging approaches for reducing uncertainty in the practice of risk assessment. Current challenges in risk assessment include estimating human exposure, applying emerging biologic data, characterizing uncertainty, and assessing risk from diverse exposure scenarios (such as low dose, acute or cumulative exposures). Examples of ongoing work to address these specific issues will be presented and discussed. Following a poster viewing period, each presenter will provide a short presentation describing the objective or challenge addressed, the key innovation and how it was applied, and the benefit or results obtained. Ample time will be given for questions and discussion, including in a general discussion period following all presentations. Thus, this session is anticipated to address and highlight innovative work at EPA to improve and refine the risk assessment process. An overview of the challenges to be addressed is presented in the figure below.
