Lead Region
The lead region system (PDF, 1pp., 158KB) is an important vehicle to ensure that regional input is sought and considered in the work of EPA. The current lead region structure has been in place since June 1984 and has contributed to an improved relationship between headquarters and EPA's 10 regional offices.
More specifically, the purpose of the "lead region" system is to ensure the quality of Agency decisions by providing an organized, consistent, and effective regional role in all the major phases of Agency decision-making. An assigned lead region, networking with and representing all regions, is responsible for working with their respective National Program Manager (NPM) to identify and synthesize the concerns of all 10 regions into a "regional view" that can be effectively factored into Agency decision-making. An NPM is responsible for soliciting and using this contribution from its lead region on major decisions.
Cheryl Overstreet, from Region 6 (Dallas, Texas), is the current ORD Lead Region Coordinator assigned through FY 2010.
