- How To Identify An Ineligible Underground Storage Tank:
Annual registration is required. The certificate of registration
(facility compliance tag) should be posted on or near the fire emergency
shutoff device or, if that is not possible, close to the fill pipe and clearly
identifiable to persons delivering regulated substances to the underground
storage tanks. A list of registered or tagged facilities is posted
on the Washington Department of Ecology's Web site. Delivery
and transfer of regulated substances are prohibited for tanks without facility
compliance tags, at facilities known to be leaking, and for tanks that are
known to be leaking, which have not been properly repaired. Green
tag rules also apply to waste oil underground storage tanks.
The Department of Ecology will also be developing rules regarding a red
tag program (see Substitute Senate Bill 5475 below). The red
tag program will be tank specific. The existing facility compliance
tags are issued to each underground storage tank facility. If a facility
compliance tag is not posted, fuel must not be delivered to any of the tanks
located at that facility or waste oil removed without prior approval from
the Department of Ecology.
