Five-year Reviews
The Superfund program conducts five-year reviews at sites where:
- cleanup activity is still in process after five years; or,
- some levels of contaminants were left on site which limits the use of the site.
The purpose of conducting these reviews is to ensure the site is safe and the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. During the review, U.S. EPA looks at:
- their file information on the site;
- any changes in surrounding land use;
- new field inspections; and,
- interviews of the local community or people associated with the site.
