Brownfields Pilots in Region 2
Brownfields is defined as abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. A list of brownfield pilots in Region 2 is available online. The pilot programs are intended to provide useful information and strategies to promote a unified approach to o site assessment, environmental cleanup, and redevelopment.EPA is funding:

assessment demonstration pilot programs to assess brownfields sites and to test cleanup and redevelopment models;

job training pilot programs to provide training for residents of communities affected by brownfields to facilitate cleanup of brownfields sites and prepare trainees for future employment in the environmental field;

cleanup revolving loan fund programs to capitalize loan funds to make loans for the environmental cleanup of brownfields.
