UPPER MERION SCHOOL DISTRICT JOINS EPA INDOOR AIR QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
The Upper Merion K-12 school district in King of Prussia, Pa., has joined EPA's voluntary Tools for Schools (TfS) program. The program will help the District identify, prevent, and correct indoor air quality problems in its buildings through the voluntary adoption of sound indoor air quality management practices. EPA MEETING FOCUSES ON LOCAL AND GLOBAL DRINKING WATER PROBLEMS
EPA hosted a meeting for the Society of Women Environmental Professionals of Greater Philadelphia on the local, regional and global issues governing drinking water quality, quantity and sanitation. EPA staff provided an overview of EPA's role in drinking water protection, regulations and programs. An overview of the Schuylkill River watershed (an important source of drinking water and fish habitat in southeast Pa.) showed how it is meeting the challenges of population growth, development and global climate change. EPA VOLUNTEERS LOOK FORWARD TO PARTICIPATE AT UPCOMING FLOWER SHOW IN PHILADELPHIA
It's official! The Philadelphia Flower Show -- the oldest and largest indoor flower and garden show in the world will take place March 2-9 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, in Philadelphia., Pa. The 2008 exhibit comes with a catchy theme: "Jazz It Up" to celebrate the birthplace of jazz. It will feature New Orleans-style walled courtyards, cast iron balconies, fountains and canals and the sounds of the great jazz legends. The EPA exhibit is entitled "Urban Scenes, Natural Rhythms." EPA JOINS IN CELEBRATING WORLD WETLANDS DAY TO PROMOTE WETLANDS CONSERVATION
The world celebrated World Wetlands Day 2008 on Feb. 2 with the theme: "Healthy Wetlands, Healthy People." It emphasizes the interrelationship between a healthy functioning wetland ecosystem and human health, and that sound water resource management strategies are crucial to support this relationship. Additionally, Feb. 2 marked the anniversary of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (an important international treaty that promotes the conservation and wise use of wetlands resources). EPA REGULATES LEAD IN CHILDREN'S PRODUCTS
EPA issued a Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) final rule on Jan. 29, requiring certain manufacturers, including importers of consumer products intended for use by children, to submit unpublished health and safety information on the lead content of children's products (excluding metal jewelry for which less lead-content information is available). EPA will review the submitted health and safety data and will consult with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to address any lead-containing product concerns.
