Background
The CMC Heartland Lite Yard site (plant site) is located on 5 acres at the northwest corner of the intersection of Hiawatha Ave and 28th St. Several companies produced pesticides at the plant from 1938 to 1968. When arsenic was discovered at the plant site, health agencies suspected that the wind might have blown contaminated dust into nearby neighborhoods. Yards were sampled north and west of the plant site. (more...)
Information for Property Owners
EPA sent out letters and access agreements to all property owners whose yards are included in the final cleanup phase that began in September 2009. If you received a letter and access agreement and have not returned the signed consent agreement, please send it in as soon as possible. Send access agreements to:

- Cleanup work on the South Minneapolis Neighborhood site will stop for the weekends beginning Aug. 1, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has announced. EPA discovered it was not cost effective to operate on weekends because the disposal facility for contaminated soil as well as the source for clean backfill material are closed. Cleanup operations at the site cost more than $15,000 a day so it is important to be able to perform the full range of activities. The decision can be revisited if conditions change. (July 30, 2007)
