Background

The CMC Heartland Lite Yard site (plant site) is located on 5 acres at the northwest corner of the intersection of Hiawatha Ave and 28th St. Several companies produced pesticides at the plant from 1938 to 1968. When arsenic was discovered at the plant site, health agencies suspected that the wind might have blown contaminated dust into nearby neighborhoods. Information for Property Owners

EPA sent out letters and access agreements to all property owners whose yards are included in the final cleanup phase that began in September 2009. If you received a letter and access agreement and have not returned the signed consent agreement, please send it in as soon as possible. Send access agreements to:

EPA will do the cleanup at no cost to the homeowner. However, if we do not hear back from you, you may have to pay for the cleanup yourself, or have a notice placed on the property to notify future residents that the soil is contaminated.
