John B. Askew Regional Administrator

John B. Askew is a sixth generation family farmer.  His family’s Century Farm is near Thurman, Iowa, where they farm 1,400 acres of corn, soybeans, and alfalfa.

Mr. Askew is currently serving as Regional Administrator for EPA Region 7, where he leads the oversight of federal environmental programs throughout Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and nine tribal nations.  Mr. Askew is committed to building strong partnerships with agriculture, and using innovation to meet the nation’s energy challenges.  During his tenure with EPA, Mr. Askew is interested in fostering solutions that work for the economy, the environment, and the citizens of Region 7.

Before his appointment as Regional Administrator, he was President of the Iowa Soybean Association, the largest state commodity group in the region.  He also served for four years as a farming industry appointee to the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation, which provides risk-management solutions to the farming community.  Mr. Askew served as a township trustee in Fremont County, Iowa, and was a member of various agricultural and environmental groups.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from Iowa State University.  Mr. Askew is married to Lauri Askew and has three sons: John, Nathan, and Alex.
