Grant Successes in Hawaii
Region Has Four Area Wide Planning Grant Winners
Four Region 9 communities were among 23 nationwide selected for new Brownfields Area-Wide Planning Pilot Program. The winners are:

EPA is providing assistance to facilitate community involvement in developing an area-wide plan for brownfields assessment, cleanup and subsequent reuse. The pilot program recipients will each receive up to approximately $175,000 in grant funding and/or direct technical assistance from the Agency.

Assessment Grants
Tribal, state, and local governments are eligible to apply for funding to inventory, assess, conduct planning and community involvement activities related to brownfield sites. Applicants may apply for $200,000 to $350,000 to address hazardous substance sites, plus another $200,000 to $350,000 to address petroleum sites. Up to $700,000 is available per applicant. Cleanup Grants
Tribal, state, and local governments, and nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply for funding to clean up brownfields sites. Grants of up to $200,000 per site are available, for a maximum of three sites. The applicant must own the property, and a 20% match is required. (More info and proposal guidelines)
Revolving Loan Fund Grants
Tribal, state, and local governments are eligible to apply for funds to capitalize a revolving loan fund and to provide subgrants to conduct cleanup activities. Up to $1,000,000 is available per applicant.Repaid loan funds can be used to make additional cleanup loans. A 20% match is required. (More info and proposal guidelines)
Job Training Grants
Colleges, universities, nonprofit job training centers, local governments, and tribes are eligible to apply for funding to train residents living near brownfield sites for future employment in the environmental field. Up to $200,000 is available per applicant. (More info and proposal guidelines)
Targeted Brownfields Assessments
A Targeted Brownfields Assessment is an environmental investigation designed to document environmental conditions at a property under consideration for redevelopment. EPA can provide communities and nonprofit organizations with environmental assessment services at brownfield properties with redevelopment potential.

Grant Preparation Assistance 
TAB EZ is a grant writing tool to be used for preparation of EPA brownfields grant proposals. Currently, TAB EZ only addresses assessment and cleanup grants.
