Cleaning Up Abandoned Gas Stations in Communities

The Underground Storage Tank Partnership in the Interstate 710 Corridor is accelerating the cleanup of abandoned gas station sites in Southern California, preventing contamination of active facilities, and removing barriers to neighborhood revitalization efforts. Many of the areas affected include low-income and underserved communities.

Protecting Arizona's National Parks
More than 11 million people visit national parks in Arizona each year. EPA's proposed rule would require additional pollution controls to improve visibility and human health at 18 national parks and wilderness areas. The public comment period for the proposal has just been extended until September 18.

Protecting Groundwater Resources
Four companies will build a groundwater treatment system at the Montrose and Del Amo Superfund sites in Southern California. The system will extract up to 700 gallons of water per minute, treat it and put the treated water back into the aquifer. The treated water will prevent the contamination from moving into unaffected groundwater supplies.
