About PDF
Region 9's Brownfields Program works to clean up and redevelop potentially contaminated lands in the Pacific Southwest region, making it easier for such lands to become vital, functioning parts of their communities. The material below describes Brownfields activities within Region 9's states, tribes, and territories. EPA's national Brownfields home page provides information on applying for Brownfields grants, recent legislation, news, and more.

EPA awarded $600,000 to Miller Children's Hospital (Long Beach, CA), making it the first children's hospital in the nation to receive a federal Brownfields cleanup grant. The funds will enable the hospital to complete a $151 million expansion project onto formerly contaminated land. EPA's partnership with Miller Children's Hospital is one example of how the Brownfields program is helping to sustain healthy communities and ecosystems.
