Looking to transform outdoor water use in your local community? Here are examples of actions WaterSense partners are taking.

Smart Controller Program: City of Frisco, Texas

Frisco, Texas, a city of 100,000 located approximately 30 miles north of Dallas, provides residents with guidance on how much to water their lawns based on weather conditions and offers homes with in-ground irrigation systems free system checkups by the city's irrigation expert. Homeowners who use smart controllers on their irrigation system and register them with the city's smart controller program receive programming assistance, flexibility on the city's watering restrictions, an annual checkup, and a smart controller yard sign. Additionally, residents who add a smart controller to their existing irrigation system are eligible for a $100 rebate. Learn more about the City of Frisco. Exit Disclaimer

Orange County presents Smart Irrigation MonthFlorida Friendly Landscaping and Efficient Irrigation Systems: Orange County, Florida Utilities

Grass covers 80 percent of the average yard in Orange County, Florida, home of Walt Disney World, which can require significant water to stay green in central Florida's hot climate. Orange County Utilities offers free workshops on "Florida friendly" landscaping practices and efficient irrigation system operations to its residents and homeowners associations. Multiple demonstration gardens of Florida friendly landscapes have been designed throughout the county and are maintained by either local garden clubs or elementary students at nearby schools. Orange County Utilities also has a mobile irrigation laboratory that evaluates residential and commercial in-ground irrigation systems and makes recommendations for improving water efficiency. On June 30, Orange County Utilities will proclaim July as Smart Irrigation Month. Check out the Orange County Utilities brochure on Smart Irrigation Month (PDF). (2pp, 529K) Exit Disclaimer
