Biography

Dennis E. Miller is a Chemical Engineer in GWERD's Ecosystem and Subsurface Protection Branch. Mr. Miller has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Kansas State University and a M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

For the past several years, Mr. Miller has participated in field and laboratory research efforts to investigate the feasibility of using nitrate as an alternate electron acceptor for stimulating anaerobic biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons for in situ bioremediation of contaminated aquifers. This research focus has been completed, and the work has resulted in numerous presentations at scientific and technical meetings, as well as several published papers and reports.

Mr. Miller is now conducting research in the area of Environmental Engineering Economics which seeks to identify factors other than technology type which drive the cost of remediation activities. Results from these studies will help identify economically sensitive areas for future research and will provide the foundation to develop economic guidance for active vs passive remediation activities.
