Girl Scout Day at Air and Space Museum
The National Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA opened its doors to more than 2,000 girl scouts to explore 36 exhibits. Exhibits included hands-on activities and emphasized women's contributions to aeropace, science, and aviation. Activities included a using a satellite phone and walking on space shuttle, among many others. In addition, Dr. Thomas Jones, veteran astronaut of four space flights joined a videoconference call to answer the girls' questions. The entire day was a huge success, evident from one woman's comment, "It's very different from when I was aiglr. But today, being an astranaut isn't out of range." Stacia, an 8-year-old Brownie form Loudoun County summed up the day perfectly. "My favorite pat was leanring how to control a robot with a keyboard," she said. "But you know what was cool? Astronauts have badges for going into space and Girl Scouts have badges too!"
