Basic Information
Linking Girls to the Land (LGTTL) is an interagency partnership between Girl Scouts of the USA's (GSUSA) Elliott Wildlife Values Project and federal natural resource agencies, initiatives and partnering organizations. LGTTL encourages Girl Scouts to work with agencies and organizations to become leaders of national and local projects focused on:
- Environmental education
- Outdoor skills
- Community service
- Careers
- And more...
The LGTTL partnership offers travel opportunities, funding, awards, and trainings to support this vision.
The Linking Girls to the Land partnership fosters program opportunities which are built on the existing infrastructure of the Girl Scouts. It recognizes the following in regards to Girl Scout standards:
- handbooks
- earned age-level awards
- participation patches
- programs in place that include extensive outdoor and conservation education compenets
- programs in place that include a longstanding emphasis on volunteer service
- Girl Scout troops and groups serving communities that are both near and far from public lands
This interagency effort is unique in the extent to which natural resource agencies and the Girl Scouts have accomplished the design, development, communication, implementation, and evaluation together since 1995. In addition to a federal or state natural resource agency partner, it is likely that many Girl Scout troops and councils will also collaborate with county, city, and other local natural resource agencies to offer conservation and outdoor programs to girls. Additional collaborators may include non-profit and volunteer groups that offer environmental education and outdoor programs, which troops and councils can work with.
