2003 Council Grants:

Girl Scouts of Audubon

Project Title: Wild about Wildlife

Project Description: As part of an environmental education plan offered to expose physically challenged girls to science and activities at a council residential camp, an accessible cement walkway for an environmental interpretive trail, and handicapped parking area were established. Cement platforms were created and supplies ordered to develop the Weather Monitoring & Soil Science Station and Water Quality Monitoring & Aquatic Insect Investigation Station for hands-on science activities. Future plans include the development of more learning stations for residential camp programs and an interactive listening cassette tape to guide groups through the activities.

2004 Council Grants:

Girl Scouts of Bayou

Project Title: Wetlands Adventures

Project Description: Girls worked with federal natural resource professionals and university advisors to scientifically study Louisiana’s disappearing wetlands, develop wildlife conservation projects and explore environmental science related careers. Girls met with a landscape architect to design the “Nature Station,” a wetland learning lab, on Girl Scout camp
property using indigenous plants. The “Nature Station” was constructed with additional grant funding. The girls plan to meet as a special interest group in 2005 and will engage younger girls in the planting and development of another
wetlands learning environment for the future.
