I am a victim of adult-onset asthma and a future senior citizen of Iowa. In order to protect our environment, our senior citizens and our future senior citizens, the Environmental Protection Agency must change the course of our nation's energy policy. Our current energy policy favors dirty, deadly sources of energy. This includes coal and other non-renewable fossil fuel sources.

We must take a new approach to energy production using current technology and renewable energy sources. Our current energy policy is contributing greatly to the three top causes of death: cardio-vascular disease, cancer, and lung disease. In order to save American lives, the EPA immediately should do two things. One, make utility companies who use dirty power sources, like coal, accountable for each death caused by the pollutants they pump into our air and water. Two, champion a national, renewable energy standard, which is the required amount of energy generated by renewable energy sources of no less than ten percent by 2010 and 25 percent by 2020. Thank you.
