"I SHARE YOUR CONCERN…."

"I SHARE YOUR CONCERN…."
I follow behind an eight-wheeler
that expels black plumes from its rear.
Behind the wheel of my little Echo
I grumble and fume at the sight.
I’ll see these pollution particulates
again as they soil my white picnic table—
I won’t see them foul my lungs
but I know they’ll be there—
brewing up some asthma for after-dinner
coughing. I e-mail the Governnor
about the clean-air technology ready
and waiting. In response there’s a letter
from the Commissioner of the DEP:
"We share your concern…be assured…"
Never mind those assurances—
I want action. I’ll e-mail again—and again.
