NextGen Energy Grants

Description The Next Generation Energy Board was established to develop next generation energy and biofuels policy and make recommendations about how the state can invest its resources to most efficiently achieve energy independence, agricultural and natural resources sustainability, and rural economic vitality. A technical review committee comprised of staff from the Departments of Agriculture, Natural Resources, Commerce, Employment and Economic Development, and the Pollution Control Agency reviews grant applications for bioenergy projects. Preference is given to projects that are at least 60 percent Minnesota farmer owned.

Grants are limited to 50 percent of the total cost of the project, or $1 million whichever is less. Grants to nongovernmental entities for the development of business plans and structures related to community ownership of eligible bioenergy facilities together may not exceed $150,000.
