Description Back to Top
CHEMFLO enables users to simulate water movement and chemical transport in unsaturated soils by solving the Richards equation (water) and the convection-dispersion equation (chemicals). Results can be displayed in graphical form for:
- water content, matric force potential, driving force, conductivity, and flux density of water versus distance or time.
- concentration and flux density of a chemical as a function of distance or time.
- cumulative fluxes of water and chemical and total mass of chemical in the soil as a function of time. Results also can be output in tabular form.
Minimum System Requirements Back to Top
To run CHEMFLO, you will need the following:
- IBM compatible personal computer
- 640 KB RAM
- 1 MB of free hard (fixed) disk space
- DOS 2.0 or higher
- CGA graphics
- a math co-processor is highly recommended
Installation and Start-Up Back to Top
Getting Started:
You will need unzipping (compression) software to uncompress ZIP files. If you need to load compression software on your computer, free software is available for download on the internet at the following sites:
http://www.pkunzip.com
- PKUNZIP home page
http://www.info-zip.org/ - InfoZip
Wiz
Installing the Program:
Two files are available for download:
- chemflo.zip (108K) : Installation and program files.
- chemflo.pdf (113 pp, 2.3MB, About PDF) :Users's Manual.
- View the User's Manual (CHEMFLO.PDF) file for further installation instructions.
- Go to Windows Explorer and create a directory (folder) named CHEMFLO.
- Download CHEMFLO.ZIP to the new CHEMFLO directory.
- In Windows Explorer, locate and unzip the CHEMFLO.ZIP file to the CHEMFLO directory you created.
- Start the CHEMFLO program by double clicking on the CHEMFLO.EXE file. A description of files unzipped to the directory are provided below:
- CHEMFLO.EXE - This file contains the executable program.
- SOIL.S - This file contains soil hydraulic data for several soils. These can be used to become familiar with the software. You may then add data for other soils of interest to you.
- README - This file contains notices regarding the operation of the current version of the software which are not included in this manual.
- CONFIG.SYS - This file may be used to install the ANSI.SYS device driver, provided you are not presently using any CONFIG.SYS file on your boot-up disk. If you already have a CONFIG.SYS file on your system, it should be modified to install the ANSI.SYS device as explained in the DOS manual.
