PESTAN is used to estimate the vertical migration of dissolved organic solutes through the vadose zone to ground water. Estimates are based on a closed-form analytical solution of the advective-dispersive-reactive transport equation. The model is intended for use in conducting initial screening assessments of the potential for contamination of ground-water from currently registered pesticides and those submitted for registration.

Getting Started:

You will need the free Adobe Reader to view some of the files on this page. See EPA's PDF page to learn more about PDF, and for a link to the free Acrobat Reader.

Installing the Program:

If your operating system is older than Windows XP, you will need to download and install the following file:

This will install the Microsoft .Net Framework, which is needed to run PESTAN

If your system already has .Net Framework loaded you will not need this file.

There is one file to download to install PESTAN:

  1. Download the PESTANsetup.exe file onto your harddrive.
  2. Run the PESTANsetup.exe file. You will be guided through the installation process.
  3. The User's Manual (pestan.pdf) comes with the installation and is accessible from within the program.
