About HAP Monitoring Sites
Monitoring sites for hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) are not as widespread as criteria air pollutant monitors. Some states have only a few sites that measure ambient concentrations of hazardous air pollutants, or the sites measure only a few hazardous air pollutants. As a result, you may have difficulty "finding" data for an AirData report or map.
Finding HAP Data
The AirData HAP Monitor Count report can tell you which geographic areas - states, counties - have reported monitoring data for any hazardous air pollutant, or for a specific one. The examples that follow illustrate "survey reports" you could use to locate hazardous air pollutant monitoring sites. See the HAP Monitor Count report help page for details of report options.
Example 1: What states reported any HAP monitoring data for year 2003?
A HAP Monitor Count report showing state summaries for all hazardous air pollutants answers this question.
Selection criteria for the report:
- Geographic area: United States
- Pollutant: All HAPs
- Year: 2003
- Optional columns: State Abbreviation (omit all other columns)
The report shows how many monitors reported data in each state, the total number of monitors, and the number of distinct hazardous air pollutants reported by all the monitors. [Display the report now, in this / separate browser window.]
Example 2: Which counties in the U.S. reported naphthalene ambient monitoring data during 2001-2003?
A HAP Monitor Count report showing county summaries for a specific hazardous air pollutant answers this question.
Selection criteria for the report:
- Geographic area: United States
- Pollutant: Naphthalene
- Year: 2001, 2002, 2003
- Optional columns: County, State Abbreviation (omit all other columns)
The report lists each U.S. county that reported naphthalene monitoring data in years 2001-2003, and the number of monitors in each one. [Display the report now, in this / separate browser window.]
Example 3: Where are HAP monitoring sites in Louisiana, and what HAPs did they measure in 2002?
A HAP Monitor Count report showing site-level information answers this question.
Selection criteria for the report:
- Geographic area: Louisiana
- Pollutant: All HAPs
- Year: 2002
- Optional columns: Site ID, Site Address, City, County, State Abbreviation, EPA Region (the default set of columns for the report)
The report lists each monitoring site in Louisiana that reported any hazardous air pollutant monitoring data in 2002. You may "drill down" to see a list of all hazardous air pollutants measured at a site, and the highest values reported for each pollutant. [Display the report now, in this / separate browser window.]
