About the Facility Search Report - Criteria Air Pollutants

What does the report tell me?

The Facility Search report allows you to look for facilities based on facility name and/or city. Facilities that match your search criteria are listed in a table, and you may select any one of them to get more information. The information consists of a state map showing the facility's geographic location; a bar chart showing the facility's estimated emissions of criteria air pollutants in the year(s) you selected; and descriptive information such as facility mailing address and industry type.

Note that all search criteria are optional, except year. (You have to select one of the available years of facility emissions data.) If you do not specify any search criteria, the search results will include all facilities within the geographic area you selected that had criteria air pollutant emissions during the year(s) you select.

What does the report look like?

The sample report illustrates the results of searching for facilities in Kansas whose names contain "good". The report always has the same set of columns, which include descriptive information about the facilities and annual emissions of each criteria air pollutant. The report has a row for each of the three facilities matching the search criteria, which are in ascending order of facility ID code (state, county, facility number).

Each facility name in the search results is a link to a detail report about that facility. The detail report (see sample below) includes a bar chart of the facility's criteria air pollutant emissions and a map of its location.

How can I customize the search?

Geographic Area
The name of the geographic area previously selected is displayed here. You can click on "change" to choose a different area.

Emissions Year
The calendar year of pollutant emissions. Select one or more of the available years. A facility is included in the Facility Search report if it had emissions of any criteria air pollutant during any year you select (and also meets additional criteria you may specify).

EPA compiles a national emissions inventory at 3-year intervals (1996, 1999, ...) and updates the National Emissions Inventory database two to three years after the inventory year. Minor database updates, to amend and correct data, take place at least twice a year. AirData uses the latest database update that has been approved for public release.

Facility Name   (optional)
You may enter a partial or complete facility name. The program searches the facility name field in the database for names containing the character string entered here. There are no wildcard characters; the program searches for the exact characters entered. If you do not enter a value, facility name plays no role in determining which facilities are selected.

City Name   (optional)
You may enter a partial or complete city name. The program searches the facility mailing address field in the database for city names containing the character string entered here. There are no wildcard characters; the program searches for the exact characters entered. If you do not enter a value, city name plays no role in determining which facilities are selected.

The facility mailing address, of which city name is a part, is sometimes different from the physical location of a facility.

City name is not available for all facilities in the database. In some states, none of the facilities has address information.

Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)   (optional)
Selects facilities based on Standard Industrial Classification -- the type of industry or activity. There are 2-digit codes, which are major classifications, and 4-digit SIC codes, which are detailed classifications. A major classification includes all the detailed classifications whose codes match in the first two digits. You may select up to 10 classifications. If you do not select an SIC, industry type plays no role in determining which facilities are selected.
