Public Hearing on U.S. EPA's Proposed Combustion Rules and Definition of Solid Waste
On June 4, 2010, EPA published four proposed rules that may be of special interest to communities. These proposals would limit emissions from combustion sources and includes two rules effecting large and small boilers and process heaters and one rule effecting units that burn solid waste. EPA also proposed a definition of solid waste for non-hazardous secondary materials. We proposed these rules together because the sources are closely related, and we are taking public comments on all of them at the same time. The public comment for these rules ends August 3, 2010.
EPA provided public hearings to hear oral comments about these rules. Public hearings were scheduled in locations identified below. For historical purposes, links to news releases announcing the public hearings and speaker list for each location has been included below.

Speakers who wished to make oral comments were required to notify Ms. Teresa Clemons (EPA, Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards) by June 14, 2010, via email at clemons.teresa@epa.gov (preferred method of registering) or by phone at 919-541-0252. Speakers were required to indicate the date and location of the public hearing that they were attending, when they wished to speak (morning, afternoon, evening), identify the rule(s) that they would be commenting on, their name, affiliation, mailing address, email address, telephone, and fax (as applicable).
The public hearings began at 9:00 a.m. and continued into the evening until 8:00 p.m. (local time) or later, depending on the number of speakers who participated. EPA scheduled breaks from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
