PM 2.5 Current AQI in Hurricane Affected Areas

Information provided for informational purposes only Note: EPA no longer updates this information, but it may be useful as a reference or resource.

Benchmarks, Standards and Guidelines Established to Protect Public Health

This map shows the locations of EPA PM 2.5 air monitoring stations in hurricane affected areas. Some stations historically monitoring this data were destroyed by the storms or taken off line to protect equipment. EPA and affected states are working to reestablish and enhance this monitoring network. As data becomes available it will be displayed on this Web page.

At highest risk from particle pollution are people with heart or lung disease, older adults (possibly because they may have undiagnosed heart or lung disease), and children whose lungs are still developing and who are more active outdoors as well as children suffering from asthma.

Particle pollution data are generated using monitoring techniques that approximate the Federal Reference Method. The data are published as soon as practical after the end of each hour and as such are not fully validated. Therefore, data are only approved for the expressed purpose of reporting and forecasting the Air Quality.
