Module 6: Air Pollutants and Control Techniques - Ozone - Characteristics
Lesson Material
Practice Problems
Objective
- Describe the basic characteristics of ozone.
Ozone (O3) is a chemical compound with three oxygen atoms. It is a colorless compound that has an electric-discharge-type odor. At high concentrations, ozone is very toxic. At moderate concentrations, ozone is associated with a variety of adverse health effects. Due to these characteristics, ozone is regulated as one of the criteria pollutants. This means that the U.S. EPA has set ambient air concentration limits for ozone.
