Other Titles of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments
The Clean Air Amendments of 1990 include a number of important provisions that are not directly relevant to air quality field enforcement personnel. These nonstationary source requirements include the following:
- Title II - Covers mobile sources, which are a large contributor to
air pollution.
- Title VI - Covers the listing and phase-out of stratospheric ozone-depleting
chemicals.
- Title VII - Provides an increase in legal authority to enforce civil
and criminal penalties on violators.
- Title VIII - Sets up a program to control air pollution from sources
on the Outer Continental Shelf, to control air quality along the U.S.-Mexican
border, and to conduct studies of visibility in Western areas of the
United States.
- Title IX - Authorizes funds for clean air research into improved pollutant monitoring and measurement techniques, air pollutant related health effects studies, accidental release predictive dispersion models, pollution prevention and air pollution control techniques, alternative clean fuels, and acid precipitation research.
