Important Notes for the:
Nonattainment Status for Each County by Year Report
This table shows the history of the nonattainment areas from 1992 to the present. Each county which is or has been nonattainment (since 1992) is listed by state then pollutant.
The column "Area Name" is the name of the present or past nonattainment area for that pollutant for that county.
The column "Nonattainment in Year" lists the year(s) the county has been nonattainment. For example, "94" means the county was nonattainment on July 1, 1994. If the county was redesignated to maintenance on July 2, 1994, the county would still show "94". If the county was redesignated to maintenance on June 30, 1994, the county would show "93" but not "94". The field "Redesignation to maintenance" shows the date the county was redesignated to maintenance. Many areas were nonattainment before 1992, but that information is not being shown at this time.
The column "Classification" is the latest classification. The county could have had a different classification in the past.
The column "County NA Part/Whole" indicates whether only a part of the county or the whole county is/was designated nonattainment.
The column "Pop (2000)" is the 2000 population for the part or whole county.
Erroneous ozone designation are not included (for more information, see the Designation Corrections category on this page).
The other columns are used in data bases and are not necessary for the general user.
The following pages detail the changes in the designation status of the nonattainment areas:
