Responsibilities
The ASG is responsible for:
Reviewing and revising, as appropriate, existing national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS), and/or establishing new NAAQS;
Managing the interoffice NAAQS review process, including coordination with ORD’s review and revision of Air Quality Criteria Documents
and, when appropriate, with OAQPS implementation strategy and regulatory impacts development;
Preparing human exposure and risk assessments and environmental assessments to help inform NAAQS reviews;
Preparing Staff Papers that integrate science and policy considerations to form the basis for staff recommendations
on the NAAQS for the Administrator’s consideration;
Obtaining peer review of health and environmental assessments and Staff Papers through the Clean Air
Scientific Advisory Committee; and
Preparing associated proposal and final regulatory packages.
