Questions and Answers: ECMPS Technical Architecture
ECMPS Additional Information
New FAQs appear at the beginning of each section.
Q: How does the ECMPS process leverage existing CAMD re-engineered data, structures and processes?
A: CAMD has already developed and is using a single database containing source and facility/unit data. Access to this data for sources is through the CAMD Business System. The ECMPS process will use this database for facility/unit data, and new data structures will be added to the existing database for monitoring and emissions data defined through the ECMPS process
Q: Will the data submitted through the ECMPS process be loaded into one common EPA database? The EDRs posted on the CAMD web site don't always agree with the final EDR that was submitted.
A: It has always been the intent, through the re-engineering process, for EPA to store all of its data in one database. EPA has already taken a major step in this direction with the development of the CAMD Business System and the Data and Maps web page. Once the ECMPS process is implemented, all of the EDR data will be stored in the same database.
EPA currently stores the submitted EDR data on the mainframe as a collection of data sets rather than in a database. Once the submission period is over and the bulk of the expected resubmissions have been received, EPA posts the as-reported EDR files to the web. In most cases, the reported EDR files posted on the web are not updated when further resubmissions occur, causing the files posted on the web not to reflect the final submission.
Once the ECMPS process is implemented, the Data and Maps web site will replace the need to post EDR files on the web site. As soon as data are submitted and loaded into the database, they will be available through the Data and Maps web site, thus eliminating the problem of not having the most current data posted on the Air Markets web site.
Q: Has EPA approached DAHS vendors about direct internet connection between CAMD's system and the vendor-supplied polling computer?
A: EPA has not approached anyone about having direct internet connection between the client tool and a source's polling computer. Furthermore, EPA does not intend to pursue any direct connection between a source's CEMS data and EPA's database.
