Educational Resources

Main Features

The Educational Resources Web page consolidates several major collections of information or tools designed specifically for kids, students, and teachers or other educators.

The Environmental Kids Club is designed to introduce children of elementary school age to environmental issues and to things they can do to protect natural resources. The site is highly interactive, and features different ways to access information. Links take users to topic-specific sites, including Air, Water, Garbage & Recycling, and Plants and Animals. Games, art projects, contests, and questions make this site highly interactive and provide valuable learning tools.

The EPA Student Center is geared toward middle school students and provides helpful homework and science project resources. Searchable categories include Air, Conservation, Environmental Basics, Ecosystems, Water, Human Health, In Your Neighborhood, and Waste & Recycling. On the top of the page are links to Careers, Internships, & Scholarships information, information about Environmental Youth Awards, and a list of Environmental Club Projects.  The Fun Activities link provides entertaining ways of learning about the environment through interactive games, puzzles, and art projects. At the bottom of the page, there is an A to Z Index of links to all of the sites mentioned in the Student Center.

The High School Environmental Center provides resources for students in grades 9 to 12.  The site is divided into seven topical areas which offer concise explanations of each topic and a list of links leading to environmental issues and programs.  Topics include Air, Conservation, Ecosystems, Healthy & Safety, Waste & Recycling, Water, and Your Neighborhood.  Other areas include how to get involved through Community Service Projects, Awards & Competitions, and Careers, Internships & Scholarships as well as a list of EPA Resources.  A special section called Can’t Find It Here? lists a variety of EPA and other government Web sites with environmental information.

The Teaching Center features background information on a variety of topics for both formal and non-formal educators who wish to teach about the environment.  Under Teaching Resources, find a collection of lesson plans, web sites, documents and activities that work in and out of the classroom.  The site also has information on workshop and conferences, grants, awards and a variety of other information to assist educators whether they teach in a traditional classroom setting, an outdoor classroom, a community center or in the home.

The Office of Environmental Education (OEE) portal leads to information on grant programs and educator training. Links to the Environmental Kids Club, the EPA Student Center, the High School Environmental Center and the Teaching Center, as well as Environmental Education Where You Live, the EPA Calendar of Environmental Education Events, and OEE Resources are also provided.

Researchers and scientists will find the Researchers link useful to access environmental data, reports, publications and research programs, and also information on research grants and fellowships.
