Current and future CMAQ simulations are performed using a "base" emission inventory. The base inventory is the USEPA 2001 version ad (2001ad) modeling inventory, projected from the 1999 National Emission Inventory (NEI99) version 3. “Model-ready" emissions will be processed for the current and future time periods with the 2001ad inventory. For the current and future time periods, the 2001ad inventory must be reprocessed using the RCM simulations for temperature-dependent emissions such as biogenics and mobile emissions. Development of model-ready emissions data for 5-year current and 5-year future time periods requires substantial effort and is a principle driver of extramural fund expenditure for this project.
