Dr. Christopher G. Nolte
The goal of my research is to understand the interactions between global climate change and regional-scale air quality. Our approach is to dynamically downscale global climate model simulations to create regional climate scenarios over North America. We are testing and refining these techniques by applying them to coarse-scale “reanalyses”—i.e., the best available dynamically consistent representation of the meteorology that actually occurred during various time periods. The regional climate scenarios derived by downscaling future global climate simulations then are used as inputs to air quality models to understand the impact of climate change on air quality and the resulting consequences for human health.
