Moisture Content

The moisture content is calculated from the wet and dry weights of a sample. These are used to estimate the porosity of the sample.

The difference between the wet and dry weights gives the volume of water. Since the sample is assumed to be saturated with water, the void volume of the sample is assumed to be equal to the volume of water. Thus, when the weights are converted to volumes, the porosity is calculated as the void volume/total volume.
