The Unsteady Mass Balance applet demonstrates unsteady mass balance where water flows into a container.
Water leaves through a drain and can be "lost" through evaporation.
The inflowing water can carry a chemical at a specified concentration.
The applet demonstrates
- The change in storage (water level) in the container when the inflow, outflow and loss are not in balance
- Steady state flow conditions when inflow, outflow and loss balance each other
(find various combinations of parameters to maintain a constant water level).
- Accumulation of the chemical, prior to establishment of steady state.
The color of the fluid becomes green as steady state is approached.
